Well, first of all I want to say hello to all of you guys. I just recently found out about this forum and couldn't resist signing up. My name is Francesco and I'm from Italy, although on the internet I often use the nick "CoccoBorg".
I have been tinkering with technology since when I was a child and find lasers extremely fascinating.
I have a YouTube channel where I upload videos about my hobbies, namely computers (mostly macs), Tesla coils, modding and as of now only one video about my 100mW red laser.
What else could I say? Well my hopes for the future are to be able to build some serious pointers like many of you guys have and at the moment I'm searching for a good pair of goggles before I start building a pointer based on (hopefully) an m140 diode

Thanks to you all, it's great to see there are so many interested in this hobby!
This is what I achieved so far, hope I will be able to build something more sophisticated soon.

Sì, ho notato che il video non funziona, non so quale sia il motivo, provo a metterlo come link semplice qui.

Yes I noticed the video doesn't work, I don't know why, I'll just link it here.

To post videos, you only need the link suffix when using the youtube plugin option. Like this: 1NYss3Xw5BA

Welcome, and go for the 9mm 445nm over the M140 :) You get a free single element lens with it and moar power! Usually anyways.

Thank you all for your suggestions, as for the 9mm diodes I'll look into them (well, not literally of course)

Jokes aside, these diodes are extremely interesting, I get they have integrated ESD protection (the lack of it caused my beloved red pointer to die).

Totally agree, built in ESD protection, can be pushed harder, comes with a stock lens. When compared to purchasing an M140 with a G1 or G2 lens it's slightly more expensive but comparable and IMO worth it for the power and built in ESD circuit.

Yup, I think the ESD protection could really increase the lifespan of the diode, especially in an handheld, well then hope I get a cheance to talk about this topic again soon, I'll have to design a proper driver first and find a decent host for it.

I will support that the 9mm is totally worth the investment. It was the first build I did, and I went to the extreme on everything. Fan cooled, toggle switch for multiple levels of output (6 levels to be exact), custom host, 5 minute run time on highest level, continuous run time on lowest level..... everything except for rocket launchers. You will be satisfied with the outcome, and I would say the cost is justified at the end.

Take TheDukeAnumber1 as an example, he has professionally killed 3 of these diods personally, he was determined to finish the build, and I will hand it to him, the builds were great.
