Hi guys,
Let me compliment you on an awsome forum. I had no idea that so much info existed in one spot. I'm glad I found the forum but sorry it wasn't a year earlier. I could have spent my money a bit wiser :( .
I bought my first laser pointer in the late 80's when the Sharper Image started to sell them [still have it] and have had a few more since as exercise for the pets and just playing around. Then I found high powered pointers and now in my quest for More Power I've found this forum and find that I have a lot to learn. I'm off to read some more.

Thanks for the welcome and the links. The search function has not been a time saver for me so far, mostly because I don't know the correct terms or keywords to use but it has always led to something else interesting. I sure hope the laser dealers [o-like, optronics, laserglow] are contributing to this forum. I sent a few $ their way as a direct result of things I read here.

Most of my searches take me down the "Garden path" of info that I was not searching for but distracts me from what I was looking for because it is so new and interesting to me.Don't get me wrong , I find the info that I am searching for usually and a whole lot more besides. When I started reading here I only knew that pushing the button made the laser work or change the batteries. I had no understanding of how they work or the function of each component, but I'm starting to now.:)

Welcome to the forum! As you've found, we have tons of info, as well as parts, kits, and complete lasers. Sam's Laser FAQ is another great source of info. As you buy or build powerful lasers, please remember the need for appropriate eye protection and safe laser useage practices.

Actually I have been using protective goggles and glasses[not certified] but checked to make sure they block most of the light since the third button push of a 120mW 405.
The first click lit a match at about 4 feet and the second time was checking my shades to see how well they would work. I got some arc flash in both eyes from a welder when I was a kid, couldn't see anything for the first little while [5-10 minutes]and then white and blueish sparks or stars swirling around for the next couple of days. That was with cotton patches over them . They hurt and watered for days too. Wouldn't wish that on anyone. I got lucky and didn't do any permanent damage that time but I'll bet a laser hit would be worse.
Thanks for the reminder about laser safety and protective eyewear guys. It can't be stressed enough.

She's still nice looking too, she co-starred on an episode of "The Dead Zone" a couple of years ago, and CSI once as well.
