I am going to try and build my first high powered laser! I am going to mount it in a modified plastic toy gun, and make it a "Death Ray" steampunk gun. This will be interesting.

I am going to be using....
PHR-805T 405 120mW Diode
PHR-805T laser diode 405nm 100-120mW [M0025] - $9.99 : Modwerx Shop

Groove 2 Driver

Groove driver v2 portable laser driver [M0028] - $13.99 : Modwerx Shop

and of course! The AixiZ housing
AixiZ 10pack 12x30mm Housing Blanks, AixiZ

Any tips and or ideas will be greatly appreciated! Will post pics as I get them going.

Hi

Welcome to the forum.

Your first step should always be, to read, there are many posts in relation to building a laser pointer.

Your first port of call is safety, being responsible is key to laser use. LD's are very sensitive components, and can easily be destroyed.

Thanks everyone. I am a machinist by trade. And have several semesters of Physics under my belt. I know and understand the importance of safety, and can never be reminded enough about that! I (and our twins who are 9) are excited to be this build. I have already built a solid state tesla coil. That was fun and they love it! So, I figured I would try my hand at a high powered laser. Again, thank you.

Well, I got the lenses in. The plastic toy gun is where I am going to "install" the laser. The gears are what I will be attaching to the outside of the gun. I will also be getting something called Thermal Exchange Valve, TXV for the alcohol bulb and tube, don't want the rest. Will be painting the gun with copper and oxidized copper paint. Looking forward to having the gun finished.

Anyone suggest what battery I should use? I don't think 3AA batteries will be powerful enough.

Thanks!
