I'm assuming this is the correct place to say hi for the first time? I've never joined a forum before.
I'm from South Africa and recently purchased 2 lasers with a 3rd one on its way.
The first is a green laser - one of those Chinese 303 things. I can only guess it's about 100 mw because it lights matches, pops balloons, cuts electrical tape, makes pinholes in CD cases etc.
Yesterday I bought a blue laser that burns through anything and it is rated at 1 watt. Came with safety goggles and a nice aluminium case.
third one that is on its way is a blue 303 that I ordered on ebay a week ago. But it will probably take 6 weeks to get here.
I'm very aware of the safety issues and have safety glasses although they are no name brands, but that's better than nothing. I plan on purchasing something better in a few weeks.
My primary use for the green laser was to use it to teach astronomy to my little daughters. But then the bug bit and I HAD to own a laser that can really burn stuff. Sure as hell beats the crappy old red key ring lasers we had in the late 90's.
anyway, I've learnt so much from this site already.
Thanks so much everyone!!!
