Greetings from Iran!

Hi everyone,

I'm Sepehr (Pronounced like "Zephyr", but with 'S' instead of 'Z' and pronouncing an additional 'H') , a 22 years old guy from Iran interested in Physics and Lasers. I joined this Forum yesterday and really enjoyed the atmosphere.

I'm currently studying Electrical Engineering (4 year Bachelor's degree).

Lasers have always fascinated me since I remember. They are really amazing. I like their pure bright colors in the dark.

Hopefully, I'll learn from you guys and will post my builds and projects which thinking about them makes me excited in advance!

I have never owned any powerful lasers (higher than 5 mW) mainly because I'm a bit afraid of their potential dangers (and because of the famous saying "Lasers are not toys").

I hope my future posts and threads will be useful and helpful for the forum and its members.

P.S. If you'd like, please explain how do you use your colorful lasers other than having them as collections.

Hi Sepehr, welcome to the forum.
I have a yellow 589nm 80mW pointer that I like using for pointing out stars for my astronomy observing but I also use a red pointer sometimes that is not as bright so I preserve my night vision better and for other people that are observing with me.

If I am doing astro-photography then I will use my green 532nm 20mW pointer that's on my telescope instead because I'm not too concerned about preserving my night vision that much.

Apart from that my blue 455nm and violet 405nm are for playing around burning things.

Also I made my own handheld NUBM07E 465nm which is such a beautiful cyan blue, very noticeably different to the 455nm blue.

I am Canadian, actually from Victoria B.C. but spent nearly 7 years working and living in the Republic of Korea. 3 of those years working for the Seoul Metropolitan Government setting up their English Language program. The other years I spent working for LG Display, LG Display HQ and the International /offshore schools.

I've been into lasers for over 10 years now. I've got a slowly accumulating assortment of lasers at home including LPMs.

some quite knowledgeable members.

The trick is doing research and being safe.

and I like to see the beams in the Fog.

Agreed though, Iran is a beautiful country. I'd love to visit some day, so much incredible scenery, beautiful architecture and culture. There's many places in the region I'd love to visit, unfortunately I think Iran is one of the few I'd feel safe enough visiting.

Thanks, dear RB. I really didn't know about yellow lasers even though I was aware that lasers can be of almost any wavelength. Looked them up on Google and they look very interesting! Sorry, but I didn't understand what did you mean by preserving your night vision. Did you mean that you have to wear safety protective goggles when using your laser?

I assume you have to wear goggles when you're playing burning things, right? I see they are colored, do they make you see everything in a colored filter?

I'm now curious to find your posts or photo album of your DIY made laser!

Thanks a lot! I'm glad that you like my country and I really appreciate your attitude to Iran and Persian culture. I love Canada too. I Never had the chance to visit there but have heard about how nice the people of Canada are and I've fallen in love with the pictures and videos of the lovely landscapes of Canada.
I see that you have had rich and nice experiences there. Did you learn any Korean? I'm asking this because I love learning languages. :yh:

I like to see the beams too! I sometimes place my 5mW laser slightly touching the ground so that it could make an artificial beam on the ground!

Hi Sepehr,

Yellow lasers are very beautiful, have a look through my posted threads and you'll find my Yellow 589nm thread.

Preserving your night vision means that when we go observing the stars, we go to dark locations and let our eyes adjust to the dark so we can see more detail in the astronomical objects we observe.
If the light is too bright then our eyes loose the dark adaptation and our pupils close down more so we try and preserve our dark night vision by using dimmer lasers.

Yes, when burning you have to wear safety goggles and they do make everything look coloured, like the filter but the beam dot will be a different colour since the filters stop the harmful wavelengths.

Welcome, Sepehr. Among other things I have used my lasers to make holograms. That is the reason for the He-Ne lasers I have. I hope you enjoy your time here and are able to gain some knowledge in the process.
