Goodmorning, from Michael-Scotland.

30, self employed, interested in science, astronomy, firearms and food.
Extreem bibliophile and cinemaphile. Enjoy Reading, NF and SF.

Regardless of the practicality I have a deep desire to cut silage wrap off a bale with a laser. Daft I know, but hopefully no worse than popping balloons! Dont worry, I own a farm and said bales are mine!

Welcome to the LPF, mkay!

You've come to the right place for learning about lasers and even where to go to purchase and/or how to build your own. There is a tremendous resource of information in the forum archives accessible via the search tool on each page. Also, there are many laser artisans here that have the ability to build you a laser of equal or higher quality than you will find from any of the recognized corporate brands. Have fun and be safe!

Heh welcome! I have no idea what material/color/thickness those wraps would be, hopefully you can get that accomplished hah

Also, I'd have to say that yellow lasers are the "coolest" to have. They're by far the most unique to anybody, even not knowing lasers. Make sure you get 589 over 593.5 for better stability ;)

Silage wrap is black Polyethylene cling film 25micron and a bale is wrapped in six layers, so
Black Polyethylene 150microns thick, cutting at >12"..my research suggests 405nm at 500mw.

Do you agree?
