Hi Everyone.
I have been interested in science since i was a kid. I have built my own jet turbine using an old car turbo charger and played around with electrical components to make an ignition system. Mainly tho I have always thought i would love to build my own laser (being a Starwars fan from a young age). As many of you would be aware governments would rather ban something then educate people about the use of them but then again there are going to be the people out there that misuse these items.
I live in Perth Western Australia and while searching around I stumbled onto this website and the sheer amount of information it contains is amazing, so I see many lunch breaks being taken up scanning the website.
The Australian government bans the importation of any laser pointer above 1mW (yes 1mW haaaah). They don't scan every single package that comes in so there is always the chance that i could order a pre made laser pointer and hope it gets through customs. What i am much more interested in is getting the parts together myself and building my first one from scratch. Aussie customs clearly states items that are NOT subject to customs control are laser modules, laser diodes and laser lighting so i should be fine.
So I've ordered my first pair of safety glasses. Got a cold beer ready and am going to read through the forums thoroughly before i ask any stupid questions.
