Hi to all.

Ive been interested in lasers for ages but never really bothered with them.

Andy_Con from cliosport advised me to come this way as I am looking at building my own laser pointer, anyone can buy one though.

Before anyone advises me, ive gone and got some glasses for protection of my eyes.

So time to start raiding and being annoying with questions to members of this forum!

Cheers.

We invite you to use the SEARCH bar before starting a new topic.
There are questions asked SO often, it makes many of us roll our eyes when someone new asks a question already answered many times.

It can happen to you, unless you're careful.
When you have a chance, update your profile and tell us something about you. Be sure to show your LOCATION, so we know what country you live. Many of the answers to questions you may ask change, depending where on the planet you live.

Bear in mind, questions and answers teach us, just as much as they teach you. Don't feel bad about asking questions. But if it's a common one easily answered by a search of the forum, someone may whine about it.

Im looking to do a 1W build, I have had many 5mw, 25mw, 100mw, 300mw Green and Reds but i just like the look of a blue one and would like to try building it myself to 1W, Ive seen the diodes on fleabay for £30. Just need pointing (excuse the pun) in the right direction.

You should buy your diodes from DTR, who is a member here. He has great prices and great service, you can also source a lens, driver and diode module from him.

For 1W, 1A on an M140 diode should give you .9W-1.1W

For a host there are lots of machinists here, Eudamonium, FlaminPyro ect that can make you a heatsink for a host.

Good luck!

I think its DTR's ebay page I have been looking at.

Whats the rough cost of a self build for some thing like this?

The cheapest I've been able to build a 1W 445nm laser was about 80 Canadian dollars (52 GPB), but depending on how fancy you would like they can cost up to 250$ (162 GPB) to build.

There are small things you can do to save money, using a cheap linear driver instead of a boost/buck driver, using an A140 diode instead of an M140 diode, getting a cheap C6 host/heatsink combo from Moh (if he still has them)

£52 for a self build of some thing like this is alot cheaper than buying one to that power, Ive seen the 300mw ones go for well over £300 here!

ARG is right about using A140s over M140 to lower price, not to mention Hak is selling a130 diodes right now for cheap($28), if you are looking to get 1W solid, You can push those diodes to ~1W. Happy Lasing

*sigh*
I wanted to stop selling them, but they just sell so easily that I'm going to bring them back. This time they'll be back with Copper heat sinks, copper modules, and focus adapters.
