Ok so I recently bought 2 C8 from fasttech, one was suppose to be for a red LED from a projector the other for the MRcrouse Heatsink GB. well for now I've ditched the red LED build for now as I had these parts laying around to make this build happen, so that's what I did. So the parts I used where a C8 host, a XM-L2 emitter on a 20mm Star, East-092 Driver!

Sorry about the quality I usally use my DSLR but didn't have the time to get it out well doing the build so I just used an Iphone 4 that I had laying around.

First I started by breaking it down.

Here is the original driver and emitter.

Little baby emitter.

New emitter and driver.

Pill after getting the emitter off. pretty decent side.

back side.

Now you might notice the 20mm star doesn't quite fit in there perfectly so I shaved it down a bit on the sides to get a nice tight fit. this was just before adding the Artic aluminum.

Driver with the spring added.

All complete

Polished the Bezel!

After Glow Ring!!

So this this is pulling 3.65A at the tail cap on high with a NCR18650B cell. and the best part its direct drive in high but still retains its 5 modes.

Thanks For looking!!

After reading scumbag's bad experience I was thinking how can you know if the buyer runs the laser too long and that is what caused the damage and how do you know that they didn't try to take the laser apart.....

To tell if the had taken it apart this can be something really simple that is used in the aviation industry. With the strict quality that i demanded on aircrafts every detail must be documented and checked. With hydraulic plumbing lines they require a certain torque and it has to be checked by quality the it is correctly torqued. Then to ensure that it is not tightened or loosened we use something called Tamper Proof Torque Mark. You would make a line going from the nut to the threads of the bolt. If the nut is turned it creates a broken line and a misalignment.

There are places you can possibly use this to indicate if the laser has been taken apart :)

Ok so now how do you know if they are listening to your recommended duty cycle. If the buyer contacts you saying the diode has died all of a sudden the first thing that comes to mind for me is how long they were running it. As far as I know there is no way to tell what kind of duty cycle they were actually using. If the buyer is a trustworthy person they will tell you their actual runtime but you still don't know for sure. Then I was thinking about our cellphones and the water detector stickers on the inside..... well what if they had stickers that would irreversibly indicate if a certain temperature is reached or exceeded.

Well they do have these!

Telatemp Irreversible Temperature Labels

What is an average temperature that is considered unsafe and i likely to cause damage to the diode? We figure out the max safe temp for each type of diode and then you use that sticker on the heatsink. If they run it too long you will know!!!

What do you guys think

So I'm building a couple lasers here a, both in the Cree Q5 host (a red and blue respectively). With the following details. Once they are built, they will be up for sale with LPM readings, just waiting on the arrival of the heatsinks.

Blue Cree Q5 host
Aluminum Eud heatsink
DTR PL450B 3.8mm 80mW diode
Mohgasm linear 200mA
3 element 405-450nm glass lens

Red Cree Q5 host
Aluminum Eud heatsink
DTR HL63603TG
Mohgasm linear 200mA
3 element 635-660nm glass lens.

Both lasers will be $115 each. Or $200 for the set. Will update with pictures of current progress. Both drivers have been mounted in their pills with respected diode/module attached, waiting on a heatsink.

Heatsinks should be here within the next week, then it's simply a matter of a 5min install and test run and we're good to go.

For those of you that have never heard of them you can learn about it here Avnet Tech Games. The Tech Games are taken very seriously, and there are a lot of opportunities for scholarships and enhancing ones personal Tech skills. The games have everything from, building computers, building robots, to programming apps. After a few years of working the games, I feel that there is a lack of Laser Technology.
I am currently trying to propose a tech game that will fill this gap, and would be competitive. Please let me know of any ideas, and credit will be given, if the ideas are accepted.

*There are a few games, but mostly all of them are Competitions for College+*

Hello All,

I'm looking to see what various laser diodes and lens setups cut and engrave for a CNC X-Y table I'm making. Instead of asking "will X laser do Y?" I thought I could just mail out some samples to folks who have the lasers to begin with.

So I'm looking for anyone in the USA (International postage doubled a few months ago) who could take some 3" x 5" or so samples of various things I want to cut and let me know how they work out. I'm leaning towards the single mode 700mw+ 405nm diodes right now but am open to other ideas.

Anyone with the oh-so very new 3.8mm 405nm diodes that don't blow up if you overdrive them? That would be awesome but those are so new and rare it might be awhile before enough are out there for this.

If you have a variety of burning lasers and want to try them out on various samples, please send me a note and I'll mail out the samples to you. I would ask for pictures and data on what diode/lens/driver setup you are running.

I am looking for a good clean, quick cut. Something that takes seconds to burn away the edges and leaves it a charred mess would not work for a lot of the things I want to try and do.

With tons of $$$ I would get a CO2 laser cutter all assembled and everything but lacking the funds for that decided to try for commercial laser diodes instead. I have the parts to make a CNC X-Y table and with the right laser diode/lens/driver setup this could be very sweet.

I think for under $350 you can get something that does a good chunk of what a $3500 CO2 laser can do. More than 10% at least. :)

Thanks again!

- Ray

Hello Laser users,
Recently I purchased a 12x405 SO6 Blue Ray laser with housing, driver and lens for a project where I have to cut images out of sticker material. A few years ago I build a CNC mill and using this Laser with the CNC would be a perfect tool to make these stickers.
After receiving the laser, I build the laser into a proper heat sink as well as additional air cooling.
After some tweaking the system (Laser, CNC, software) it was working very well until the diode died several days ago.
I immediately checked the temperature of the housing but it didn't feel warm what so ever.
To prevent this from happening again, I need to know what killed the diode.
When I bought it, I was advised that it was adjusted to 500mA and it could be used with a 5V supply; I did follow this instruction. I powered the laser from the PC 5V supply. I provided proper cooling.
Did I run it too long? It was on for about three minutes? If so, what is the reason to switch off the laser, even if it doesn't feel warm.
Thanks for the feedback
Henk

I asked a simple question, in a new thread, rather than revive a 7 month old thread. Why? Because security vulnerabilities have been patched at this point, I didn't think it would do any harm to simply bring a topic back up. I was told the owner didn't want to try adding a plugin because of issues, and said that was fine, I'd respect the decision, it's not my forum.

I was then jumped all over for asking a question that had been asked before, with people talking about giving negative rep. I'm just saying, I respectfully said I understood. I didn't try to argue it, or anything. Yet, multiple others were quick to denounce me for simply trying to find out the status on something, that hadn't even been asked about for 7 months (at least, in a new thread that I could find).

Point is, why do people feel the need to be rude about something? I'm not looking for an argument at all, just asking people - be at least a little more polite. Forums don't become popular by being treating people like dirt.

-Also, I do realize this is a free forum, but that doesn't mean I haven't spent money here.

Hi all. This is a pre-sale item, as my PayPal is locked up, due to a dispute with a despicable member, and the final driver is shipping. Here are the details:

Here is the host, hand polished by yours truly.

Here is the diode in the Kryton head, being directly driven:

That's well over 3W @ 2.43A! The final current setting will be set to give an even 3W output, so as to get a few more seconds on the duty cycle.
Duty cycles for this diode/host combination should be limited to no more than 60seconds with a minimum of 30seconds cool down time!

The host was fully sanded to removed anodizing across the ground path, per Mohrenberg's instructional email. Arctic Ceramic was used to press fit the diode. The diode head/heatsink and the focus head remain anodized to preserve protective finish.

I will not set the price until the final driver setting is made and photographed on my Ophir LPM. I do not want any confusion as to what someone is getting for their dollar.

Thanks for looking!

Here i just wanna share some experince, so you hopefully not, going in to the same problem.

If You live in Denmark, and have ordered a Laser from outside the world.
Then Be sure that, its not PsostDanmark, Who transport you package, whith the laser ofc :)

PostDanmark - Have some Company rules, which Categorize laser as a weapon, so they will return the laser to the company you bourght it from.

FedEx, have no rules about laser, so be sure to use that company or other, but remember check company rules for transporting packge from outside the world..

My grammar isnt the best, but i still hope you got my message!

so that I can easily access reviews of lasers I no longer have. I treasure each laser I own,
and take many pictures of them and create these threads so that long after they have departed
my hands myself and others may still enjoy them.

So, each entry will have the name of the unit, manufacturer(or forum builder when applicable),
and power output. They will be in the order received, starting from the earliest and moving forward.

[Solved] I was a little to hasty to await a response form Zerolaser. I got an e-mail back from Zerolaser pretty quickly given the circumstances. If you run into this problem with the Sr5 host, clip the spring in the back until it works as its supposed to.

I just finished my first build of a DTR 445nm 9mm, using a Sky Ray Sr5 host. It is dang powerful, and I am completely happy with it minus one aspect.
It will not turn off. I have tried trouble shooting it but I don't want the duty cycle to run for too long. I have screwed the end cap all the way in and clicked the end cap, and there is no change it just stays on. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Well I had to throw away my car dvd since it wasn't working anymore. Anyhow I dissasemble it compleately and here is what I got:
Obviously a laser, a lens, a couple of mirrors (very small) and something I can't really tell what it is. I don't know if it's the laser pickup module or how it's called. Probably someone can tell me exactly what I am looking at, and what can it be used for. It's obviously that grey thing that looks like a laser diode but 2 times bigger...
BTW does anyone know what 28 TE means on the diode?

Ok so I took the diode off the board. Now I was looking to understand the pinout of this diode but it seems I can't find the information needed (yes I have searched already).
The diode has a big R on the back and it says 28 TEC on the case... any idea what diode it might be? It came from a cheap a$$ DVD player for a car.
like the title of this thread- this purging will take months or longer.
I cannot start a new thread for each item- so go here- and subscrbe to my thread- then when something new pops up or gets sold you will know via email.

here it the thread-

Hey guys

I just finished my first build after a few difficulties, but all is well now.
It was one of Moh's C6 JAD kits, which is amazing by the way, and DTR's M140 diodes with a G-2 lens. I'm running it at 1.8A so it heats up pretty fast, but I don't mind short run times.

Props to Moh and DTR for these great parts!
I'll try to get some more at night when it's dark, but here's all I have for now. Thanks
